Lesson notes — Month 2, Lesson 8
Today’s goals
- Hear and sort the digraph sh in initial and final position (ship, shop, sheep, shell, brush, wish).
- Spell three sh words by sound.
- Read she, he, the, was, my, said on sight.
- Count and add within 10; continue an A–B pattern.
How to run it
- 15–20 minutes per half; stop before wobbles start.
- Child answers out loud first, then taps — speaking is the learning part.
- Sound out sh as one sound, not “s-h”. If they add an “uh” (shuh-ip), model the blend slowly.
- Screen-free backup: pencil, paper, and the six word cards to cut up.
Offline extension
- sh hunt around the house: shirt, brush, dish, cushion, splash, marshmallow.
- Draw a sea picture and label it: ship, shell, fish, shore.
- Count real objects into groups of 5, then add two groups.
Next lesson (9)
- New sound: ch — compare sh vs ch (ship / chip).
- Sight words: review today’s box + they, there.
- Maths: number bonds to 10, patterns with three elements.
