Month 2 Lesson 4

The Water Cycle — where did the rain go?

0 / 9
Today we follow one little drop of water all the way home.

THE WATER
CYCLE

Rain comes down. Puddles go away. Clouds float up there. It is all the same water, going round and round.

Let's start!

Our plan for today

the same water, since the dinosaurs!
01 Words we say out loud

Five big words. Turn the cards.

Tap a card to flip it, then say the word three times. Big words are easier when you show them with your hands.

Turned over: 0 of 5

02 The big story

Round and round the water goes

Scroll slowly. The picture on the left wakes up as each step arrives. Tap Hear it to listen instead of reading.

The water cycle: the sun warms the sea, vapour rises, a cloud forms, rain falls, and a river runs back to the sea the sun vapour goes up a cloud rain! river the sea
Step 1 of 6 the sun wakes up
03 Clap the syllables

Tap a word. Clap each chunk.

Long words fall into small pieces. Clap once for every yellow bubble that pops up. 👏

Clapped: 0 of 10 — try the 4-clap word last!

04 Raindrop maths

Fill the bucket to ten

Ten is a magic number: five here, five there. Then we take some away — just like the sun does to a puddle.

0 drops in the bucket

Tap the bucket to tip the drops out.

Mission 1

make 10

I need 10 more drops.

Mission 2

10 − 3 = ?

The sun drinks 3 drops. Tap 3 drops to take them away. Then you've finished!

05 Match it up

Word finds picture

Tap a word on the left, then its picture on the right. A green pair means you knew it!

06 Write it yourself

Trace the word WATER

Use a finger or a mouse. Start on the dotted line and try to stay inside. Fill all five letters to win a star.

07 Read it out loud

A little rain poem

— tap each line to hear it, or read it to a grown-up
08 Ask me three… four!

Show what you know

Wrong answers are welcome here. That is how thinking feels. Try again as many times as you like.

09 Make it with a grown-up

A rain cloud in a jar

Shaving foam is not needed — milk and a glass do the trick. Watch the "rain" fall through the "cloud".

A clear glass of water with a cloudy layer on top science, made at home

You need

a clear glass · water · cold milk · food colouring · a spoon

  1. Fill the glass nearly to the top with water. That is your sky and your sea.
  2. Pour a little cold milk on top. It floats — that is your cloud.
  3. Drip blue colour onto the milk, one drop at a time.
  4. Wait. Watch the coloured "rain" sink through the cloud into the water below.
  5. Ask: where did the drops come from? Where are they going?
👀 Grown-up stays with this one — no drinking the experiment!
Your star chart

Nine stars and you're a Water Wizard

Tap a star to jump to that activity.

Locked!

Do one more thing and a star will light up.
