The Ratio &
Fraction Factory
A messy, yummy, squishy lesson.
You will build smoothies to find out the difference.
👩🏫 For grown-ups (30-second read)
The idea: a ratio compares two groups (2 : 3 — no total needed). A fraction compares one group to the whole (2/5 — the bottom number is the total). Children mix these up because both use the same two numbers.
The fix: the smoothie jar makes the invisible visible — add blueberries and the strawberry fraction shrinks even though no strawberry left. Then the "push the piles together" bridge shows where the denominator comes from: ratio parts added up.
